I would like to thank both Barbara and Mary for their insightful comments, in fact the issue of obtaining first impressions and reacting on them subconsciously is a topic discussed in a book that I recommend entitled “Blink”. I have provided a link to this book on my blog under the “I recommend” section, look for additional information on this topic in future posts. I guarantee that you will never look at the world the same way again after reading this book.

Body language can speak louder than words. Crossed arms or crossed legs, bad posture, rolling eyes, etc. will be interpreted in a negative way. It sends a message, sometimes without the interviewer even knowing it. Eye contact, open arms and even small words of feedback (yes, I understand . . .) will tell the interviewer you are interested.

I totally agree with you that a person's attitude is hidden in plain view by the physical manifestations of what is really coming from within. My experience has been that positive attitudes are the key to successful interviews and landing the job. Thank you for the reminder.
